Honoring Indigenous Wisdom: Guardians of Biodiversity and Cultural Heritage
Agosto 14, 2024

This week, SD-WISHEES joins the world in celebrating #InternationalDayOfIndigenousPeoples which was on August 9.

Indigenous communities are the guardians of our cultural heritage, preserving invaluable knowledge and traditions that are crucial for sustainable development and climate resilience. Their deep connection to the land and ancestral wisdom offer unique insights into protecting our shared cultural and natural heritage.

Did you know?

• Indigenous peoples make up less than 5% of the world’s population but protect 80% of global biodiversity.

• Traditional knowledge systems have proven effective in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.

At SD-WISHEES, we are committed to integrating indigenous perspectives into cultural heritage protection strategies. By combining cutting-edge research with time-honored practices, we’re working towards more resilient and inclusive approaches to safeguarding our shared legacy.

Let’s honor indigenous contributions and ensure their voices are heard in shaping our sustainable future!
