ISPRA, together with the National Copernicus Users Forum and the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), is organizing the Hackathon “SpazioCulturale” (“CulturalSpace”, in English). with the support and sponsorship of the Horizon EU SD-WISHEES project, which focuses on the protection and sustainable management of cultural heritage, as well as e-GEOS and Planetek Italia, leading companies in Earth observation and geospatial information services.
This is a multidisciplinary event for young talents aimed at promoting innovation in the sectors of cultural heritage, air quality and climate change, making use of the Copernicus Earth observation products made available by the CAMS and C3S services.
The event will be held at the ECMWF Data Center in the Tecnopolo of Bologna, Italy, on 9-11 May 2025. Participation will be free, upon registration, for university students, recent graduates, doctoral students and post-docs. Only EU citizens are eligible to participate. Participants must be able to speak Italian.
Participants, organized into teams, will have the opportunity to develop and present their innovative ideas in the form of prototypes, mockups, infographics, dashboards, or project proposals to be evaluated by the jury, which will select the winners.
From 9 to 11 May 2025, the @ECMWF headquarters at the Tecnopolo di Bologna will host the Hackathon “SpazioCulturale”, a multidisciplinary event that invites more than 30 young talents – university students, recent graduates, PhD students and post-docs – to develop innovative solutions for one of the two challenges devoted to the protection and promotion of cultural heritage, air quality monitoring and adaptation to climate change-induced extreme events, using data from Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) and Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) and geo-spatial information on cultural heritage sites and areas.
Organised into ten multi-university, multidisciplinary and gender-balanced teams, participants will be able to propose their innovative ideas in the form of prototypes, mockups, infographics, dashboards or projects. A jury with experts from the organizing committee and the sponsors will select the two winning groups.
